Charlotte Riley with Tom Hardy at the Batman Premier in London wearing a black silk and floral cocktail dress by Designer Astral Sundholm-Hayes.

Sometimes as a designer exciting opportunities come your way and I was delighted to work with English Actress Charlotte Riley on a couple of special gowns for the Premier of the new Batman in New York and London staring her fiancé Actor Tom Hardy as the Villain.

Charlotte and I discussed ideas and I know she loves vintage and Audrey Hepburn’s style so I followed that path, The second dress was also strapless and boned in a black cord silk set into a silk floral pencil skirt with a high back split and matching floral silk cummerbund with double peplum at the back

Charlotte Riley with Tom Hardy at the Batman Premier in a beautiful silk blue cocktail dress by Designer Astral Sundholm-Hayes.
Sometimes as a designer exciting opportunities come your way and I was delighted to work with English Actress Charlotte Riley on a couple of special gowns for the Premier of the new Batman in New York and London staring her fiancé Actor Tom Hardy as the Villain.
Charlotte and I discussed ideas and I know she loves vintage and Audrey Hepburn’s style so I followed that path, I decided to use some stunning antique silk blue taffeta with a satin damask floral motif for the first cocktail dress.

The antique fabric comes in a width of 50cm unlike fabric today which is usually a 140cm wide, which meant the fabric was going to dictate the shape of the dress, so my pattern skills kicked in and I went for a 50’s style silhouette with large pleat tucking at the waist which gives the fullness set into a strapless boned corset body with covered buttons down the back.
I though Charlotte looked stunning and the dress was perfect, not over the top or under dressed, just right, so I think I did my job and she was listed on Vogue.co.uk best dressed.
Now for the next one in London?

DRESS OF THE DAY

The new 2013 silhouette collection by Circa Vintage brides 1960's Lizzie

A step by step introduction to the Vintage inspired wedding dresses influenced by the 1920’s, 1930’s, 1940’s, 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s by the designer Astral Sundholm-Hayes.
The 1960’s with all its hipness and coolness brought about a complete change of direction in wedding dresses, never before would you have seen such short wedding gowns along with such a strong emphasis on the A-line silhouettes or princess empire line in both short and long style’s. Dresses of this period seem to favour organza and lace and would be worn with big hair and false eyelashes to complete the look. An Iconic bride of the time would have been Priscilla Presley.
1960'S Influenced Lizzie wedding dress worn with Emmy Shoes style Stella
1960’s Vintage silk georgette double layer gown from the Hollywood collection, the top of the gown is all-in-one crossover bust and straps adorned with Swarovski crystal elements, the skirt is set into to the empire line with a double bias cut layer of silk georgette, short at the front to above the knees leading to a train set into the back of the gown which cascades and floats out as you walk, perfect to take into an evening dancing.

DRESS OF THE DAY

The new 2013 silhouettecollection by Circa Vintage brides 1950's Grace

A step by step introduction to the Vintage inspired wedding dresses influenced by the 1920’s, 1930’s, 1940’s, 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s by the designer Astral Sundholm-Hayes.
The 1950’s has to be one of the most flattering silhouette’s in the last 100 years, nipped in at the waist and a full skirt makes every bride look like a film star. I have worked on three different design details for the Circa Vintage Brides 1950’s bride. Grace is a classic silk Duchess satin full length gown with simple lines again focusing on the nipped in waist to a full skirt and a cross over which hangs off the shoulders.

1950’s Vintage inspired Grace Kelly classic full length Duchess satin wedding gown with structured boned bodice covered with cross over wraps which hang delicately off the darted shoulders framing the face set into a wide waistband and full Princess skirt with slight train.

Circa Vintage brides 1950's style Marilyn worn with Emmy shoes

The 1950’s has to be one of the most flattering silhouette’s in the last 100 years, nipped in at the waist and a full skirt makes every bride look like a film star. I have worked on three different design details for the Circa Vintage Brides 1950’s bride. Marilyn is of course based on Marilyn Monroe’s famous blow up halter neck dress and we have designed it with two fabric choices, sheer silk organza or silk taffeta.

1950’s Marilyn Monroe Vintage inspired Halter neck knee length wedding dress from the Hollywood collection. The gown is halter neck style and travels from behind the neck and meets at the bust where tiny pleats create shaping, the body comprises of sculpted panels past the waist to the hips where the skirt is ruched in the hip line from one side to the other leaving a flat panel at the front of the dress. Made in either silk taffeta or sheer organza and comes with 1950’s style petticoat.

The 1940’s is probably my brides favourite Silhouette as the focus in on the waist framed by the shoulders and fuller skirt of the wedding dress.

The 1940’s is also a great time for women as the short sleeve became very popular in evening wear, although traditionally bridal gowns would have had long sleeves, but today’s brides favour a short sleeve so I have designed my vintage wedding dresses with this in mind.

My Beautiful little bridal boutique Circa Vintage Brides.

I spent year’s dreaming of my first bridal boutique after setting up Circa Vintage Brides in 2006, luckily back then I also owned the famous CircaVintage in London and set up my first vintage inspired collection of wedding dresses at the back of the shop which also housed high end women’s vintage clothes.

Roll on another 6 years and finally it happened in December 2012. The beautiful Circa Vintage Brides wedding boutique sits on the prestigious Richmond Hill famous for stunning views across the Thames and  for the Rich & Famous who live there from the Jaggers to the soon to be newlyweds Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolye. The shop front has a grand Victorian Facade with one large window updated weekly. The shop interior is light grey showing off the gowns which hang from custom made 1920’s style rose wrought iron rails to compliment the large 1920’s frosted glass central light. French hand painted furniture and Venetian mirrors adorns the boutique and its large black wrought spiral staircase leading a second floor.

I wanted to create something very comfortable and quite deco style which would set the wedding dresses off and make brides feel special as soon as they step through the door.

I hope you it like too. x
